Garaj Baras Sawan

Just a random thought that struck me, at the moment Garaj Baras Sawan Ghir Aayo is playing, a song by Junoon, rather an undoubtedly hit number - here in Glasgow, rain is a matter of routine, thanks to Almighty, there are a few sunny and partly sunny days as well, one can have a break from depressive disorder which comes in a package of rain, dark days, cold winds and very short days of winter. To cut long story short, In Pakistan, this punch line of the song is the most popular in scorching heat of summer - people long for such rainy days, (but sometimes they do long for sugar, flour, Cooking Oil etc - oh, why did i forget to talk about electricity?), anyway, here i have a slightly modified version of this punch line: Garaj Baras Sawan Ghar Jayo. And today was a sunny day here - after a rainy spell!

Odd

An odd fact: I take refuge in blogging to avoid books.

The Nigerian guy is running out of money so he hides the iron and recommends going to the laundry downstairs to press the clothes - it's free of charge. My harsh tone (synonymous to Oaey Nae Chadd'aan Gaa) on phone (he keeps three 12'' stainless steel knives in his kitchen drawer) works and he reveals the place where he had hidden the treasure iron (no gold as always).

(in)sane decision

I went to a store close to my hostel to buy milk, there a Pakistani guy (we already know each other) spent around fifteen minutes to sketch a grim picture of current situation of Pakistan to convince me that going back after graduation would be an insane decision. I didn't want to tell him that the decision of not going back would be insaner and more disastrous!

Scribbled

  • Desi Thetas is a type of problematic students, who, in a class, try to create a feeling of inferiority and mediocrity for others. Here in our class, we have a real Greek' theta from Greece. He is not as problematic as our desi thetas but enjoys the habit of wasting time at the end of lecture by posing irrelevant questions.
  • I have started believing that my M.Sc course is based on the theories of abstract and absurd. Meanwhile Original Greek Theta is quite content.
  • Tolulope, my Nigerian flatmate is on packed tin fish since yesterday. Result: A bad odour of raw fish in the kitchen and an open window.
  • And i am on carrot and coffee cakes, one per day on alternate basis, and this craving is likely to end soon.
  • I have developed the habit of drawing arrows on the paper with sharp pointing heads. When i write something, sometimes, i repeat it in my mind and draw an arrow. Line, a hollow triangle and then filling the shape merely takes a second.
  • This post was originally written here. Absurd theories don't work for me.
  • Tomorrow is a plan for a picnic that was postponed twice before. Just received an email from a friend - it seems everybody is ready to go.

Implausible Theories

These days it's a new fad to talk about implausible theories, predict the unusual, show off the wisdom and understanding of current affairs. So here in this post i would also present the same old things you hear in your daily life:

1. Media e.g Geo TV, has a tendency to become an invincible mafia in order to badly influence the lives of common people - the public; sympathetically know as Mazloom Awam. Their reporting techniques have created an addiction which compels people to stick to this channel. Mostly they talk rubbish and try to waste time in reports e.g:

Reporter: Ji main is waqt Islamabad -- (realizes mistake and starts again): Islami Jamhoria Pakistan kay Darul-Hakomat Islamabad main Chief Justice Janab Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Kay Ghar Kay Bahir Judges Colony main sarak per mojod hoon.

Hamari Chief Justice Janab Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudh ry say Baat nahi ho saki, Lakin zara'ey ka kahna hay kah Chief Justice Janab Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ab kisi say mulaqat nahi kar ray hain.

Khalid in Studio: Acha batain kah Chief Justice Janab Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry nay mulakatain kiyon tarQ keen? Notice the Qaaf in their accent.

Reporter: Kiyon k Chief Justice Janab Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry blah blah

And they spend at-least five to ten minutes in this drama. And majority of their reports are same sort of crap with little or no useful information.

2. In a country like Pakistan, where the establishment of governments and appointments on higher ranks in army is done on the directives of USA, do you believe that media is Independent and is not under their influence?

3. In the past, USA used to influence governments alone, but today they have a control over media as well to distract the public, change their beliefs and hence in return more instability in society. They create an environment, a hype, a frenzy through electronic media and emotionally involve the public in it.

4. Sometimes, media overpowers government and they call it Independence and Rule of Media. Again the strings are pulled from somewhere else. How media could become such a big giant? Do we have saints in Electronic Media who believe in 'Truth-in-Everything' mantra? Certainly not.

5. People came out on roads for the support of a judiciary drama supported by political parties but they have never protested against inflation this way. In the past few days how many times media, government and Nawaz league have addressed these issues? Rather, still they are talking about Integrity of their parties, Governor Raj and Constitution.

All for now. Next post would be on some other absurd theory.

Sunday

Opening of another post with an appropriate title with some random thoughts:

Bin Laden
  • Osama Bin Laden has released another video. In future he would be famous for releasing video tapes and messages on websites no one knows about except FBI. And we hear about it on CNN.

Long March

  • Political drama will end on a settlement that has already been made. Drama and Long March is staged for public now.
  • In this drama, government ensured that all its allies get benefit from this situation, so Geo Tv was banned.
  • People are madly blogging about it. twitter updates, sms, live chats etc, these pi#¤&% up bloggers don't have courage to come out on the roads, rather they just chant slogans "Rule of Law, Rule of Law". They can't bear any criticism, they reject it and avoid the truth. Folks, don't talk rubbish, act like a man despite typing ,twittering and approving selected comments. People with dual faces. You can visit Teeth Maestro. Google it if you wish, i don't want to link him here.

Universal Healers

  • All the crap that we used to see on mIRC and in Pakistani rooms of yahoo chat has shifted to blogs in recent years. This place is quite a mess now. We have many universal healers around who act the same way people do on IRC chat: Hi asl? 26/m/lhr, ok bye. By now, you might have known what type of crap that is.
  • It is interesting that just like professional beggars, these universal healers are seen only in a fixed circle of bloggers and they don't cross boundaries. Sometimes they act like a jester to cheer up the writer, or they practice cheap psychotherapy techniques learned from traditional jokes, stories and friends. They always assure the desperate writer: Apnay App Per Yaqeen Karin. App Kisi say Kam Nahi. But their hidden message is : Mayra Bhi Yaqeen Karo Salma. Search mera jehan + wordpress, you will find one such example.
  • It is very interesting that those Universal Healers don't talk to other healers or other guys. They are never seen on their blogs as well.
  • They are universally accepted and welcomed after the elapse of a certain period in which they are ignored by the blog owner, but frequent visits and comments pay off in the end, and their nick gradually becomes familiar for regular visitors of a certain blog.
  • In essence, they are real fuel of blogging. Blogs would not get any comments or traffic without them and his whole industry will come to an halt.

Aunty Agony Ka Blog

  • Three months ago i found the blog of Aunty Agony Every other story on her blog is a love affair of a boy and a girl and she concludes every post with her pea sized brain. (She must be thankful to me for i haven't written pea with double e here)
  • She is afraid that every other woman in this world is after her husband. And after every certain incident, her husband assures her, "There is nothing like that honey!" And her comments for readers go something like : "Yes, with my influence on him so strong, how could it be.
  • Her post are more like a Teen Aurtain - Teen Kahaneyaan than anything else. She should change the title of her blog to Aik Aurat - Bohat Sari Kahaniyan

Miss 'Future of Blogging in Pakistan'

  • Another interesting character who sends a questionnaire to bloggers and asks them to pen down their personal experiences about blogging. Now the real funny aspect is that even after so many years of blogging in Pakistan, she asks a question : What is the future of Blogging in Pakistan?
  • Miss FoBiP, blogging isn't a new thing in today's internet era. If it's your lack of ability to devise a new questionnaire contact the person who wrote you the first one, he would do it for the second time as well. If he/she refuses, then just look for some other universal helpers. They can provide a new question paper. Forget this future veeuture stuff. Think about Long March, Judiciary and Rule of Law.

'He He' Blogger

  • I doubt hehe had some psychological problems or hehe had been playing gudda guddi ka khel in his childhood. You would have met him somewhere. His comments are short, start like: he he, and he just tries to mark his presence only. he he.
  • 'He He Blogger' apna Paygham Daytay hain: 'Naqaloon Say Hoshyaar - Comment Perhanay say Pehlay Mayra Signature Zaroor Perh Lain, He He' If you haven't met him yet, i am sure very soon you will.

Rowing for Hope

Hi folks! Meet Paul, just 25 years old, he is in North Atlantic Ocean for last sixty-one days on a solo rowing adventure, for a noble cause of raising funds for cancer research. Rowing twelve hours a day in six two-hours shifts each and four snacks between breakfast and dinner, he is following a tough schedule in a very disciplined manner while he is off the shore!

Using state of the art technology for clean drinkable water to modern communication systems for staying connected with people on land and to update his blog daily, main source of power is solar cells - no wonders!

That is a very interesting adventure. He has a site Row for Hope and a blog Solo Row (i am glad that he is on blogspot!). Do check out the links. And don't forget to have a look at his FAQs page too! And how did i come across it? Just to kill the boredom, I watch CNN videos with much interest these days!

And wow, my fingers on keyboard run quite fast - it gives a good feeling! I still remember when the very first time i typed using a keyboard and back then i had to find every single letter carefully!! It was some fifteen years ago!

Dear only two readers of this blog, i am glad that you people still drop in, bring some more traffic with you! Certainly you would not like this blogger committing a blogicide due to a maximum hit rate of two per day! Add one to it if you want to count me as well!

3.22 pm, Tomorrow i have a class at 11, so no worries! Good night.

Books?

What the heck yar, i have to take an exam tomorrow but i don't feel like studying, i am tired.

ps: Interestingly, with exam just a few hours away, the exchange of group emails between course advisor and students is something new and i hope it'd gain some momentum. I too, sent a couple of emails with a few questions to get instant help and solutions early morning today. It is creating somewhat real fear we all associate with such situations. Either i am over confident this time or these goras, who asked for a copy of some missing notes in an email a couple of hours ago. Networking though emails at this crucial hour seems to be a blessing. I must find a twitter update box for blogger sidebar. Do you know something about it?

Better to get back to work now.

Food!

Yes it is all about food. It was just by chance that i found a very splendid and artistically designed website of Sahara - a Pakistani Indian restaurant in Dubai. This website is worth a glance. And their buffet has a very reasonable price, just have a look at their menu! image courtesy Sahara

And if we talk about aromas of traditional spices wafting from a selection of delectable desi food, you would certainly name Biryani, Haleem, Fish, BBQ, Soft Puris and Tandoori Parathas. Wanna see how some Pakistanis are running this business in Australia? See them adding spice to the food right in their kitchen. Three video episodes of Food Safari Pakistan (ebedded below) - A proper production by some goras (?) who did a series on traditional foods of different places in the world, so click, you would not be confronted with traditional Samina's/Rubina's food recipes with not-so-unusual Nazreen ab hum is main blah O blah. Perhaps you would be pleasantly surprised to see a desi cricket celebrity in the second video.

As i have wasted thirty minutes on those, i expect you to do the same. Meanwhile i make a paratha (Third of my kitchen series) by following the self help rule, watch those videos! Just blame my laziness, Mr I has promised to bring me a stock of cooked frozen food tomorrow.

Antarctic

My love for antarctic landscape and passion to visit that place surfaced some two years ago. Things that attract me are huge blue icebergs, calm sea revealing an extreme depth with floating patches of ice of varying dimensions and its dark water, native animal species and ice laden land.

It started when i visited a website and found a stock of copyrighted photos of Antarctic. I contacted them for a permission to display them on my blog but they didn't allow me to do so!

Interestingly, those people were actually running a company whose sole business was to arrange trips to Antarctic. Being in business, they rather offered me to check their website for tour details and costs so that i may take photographs myself despite using copyrighted material and they literally mentioned it in their email.

My heart sank a little bit when i checked the tour charges, there were different packages, and on a rough estimate, an average tour was about twenty lakh rupees from Canada. Quite impossible, how could i collect such a huge amount? Only a miracle could make it possible, just like many other things that are outcomes of different miracles in my life; things i believed were never possible in my life -- turned into reality.

So, on those basis i am just not losing hope. Sometimes things make their way themselves. And i hope someday i would land there with all my excitement and sanity intact!

There i would row a boat in the freezing cold and dark blue waters; i would discover how does it feel to touch tons of colored solid ice with bare hands, something which has a history of millions of years, I would feel the blissful silence, see through the serene skies, breath in the purity of those moments, walk with the penguins and talk to those huge seals and whales. And then in future, if someone would talk about Antarctic's history, i would be a part of those millions of years; for once i was there and i shared the same space and time as its natives did.

May be you would like to click on a few images of Antarctic

Keep Shut

Internet -A Mess

This internet and tech has messed up our lives - my life, to be more specific. I think more about internet then anything else. Let me summarize it:
  • News updates
  • Email boxes - google, yahoo,
  • Facebook status
  • What friends are doing
  • Anybody on yahoo, msn, skype?
  • What my next post would be?
  • How dare he/she said that in response to my comment. Tit for tat. IS ki to ...
  • Oh he deleted the comment. tsk can't stand the truth. bast...
  • What a nice blog and writer - Internet is a nice place to meet people.
  • My laptop battery needs replacement. I don't want to spare hundred pounds.
  • What's going on in US, UK, let's check CNN. Obviously it's my tea break.
  • xyz is absent from his blog for many days. No update, strange. He is not even on facebook.
  • No traffic / Oh someone visited my page!! I'll visit more blogs to get traffic. Be nice.
  • Oh she/he again? No man. What a pissed up person.
  • People on blogs normally want wah wah comments. Nothing else. And that too on extreme bullshit like : 14 Feb, Picnics, Chocolates, I will call you, gov is doing this, xyz an idiot , he must run goverment like that. (You "#¤ if you are that capable of running something why don't you jump into this business? And just s#¤" up - studying pol science doesn't mean you can run the business - "#%3).
  • Do you have ipod?
  • My broadband connection. Web hosting. Templates.
  • Facebook wall message to person: I will call you in the evening! wow amazing! that was something mind-blowing i saw recently.
  • twitter update for those who are sitting besides you. hey check your twitter
  • And the tragedy is everybody wants to become a writer. Those who had been cramming A Cricket Match and A Trip to Museum in school now claim to be a writer. Sadly and secretly i was also one of those. I wrote whatever i wanted to write in previous four years and now it's over - almost over.

70 percent of life is mess just because of this technology, this computer and this damned bloody internet. See at 4.29 am what am i doing? updating blog. Real pity. Strained and unnecessarily stressed life is a gift of internet and tech.

Of Bananas and Cakes

This small post has something to do with the title - only a very little 'something'. Titles are necessary as i have realized it lately - otherwise the long opening sentences of the posts in archive menu don't leave a good impression on the neatness of whole layout. So, posts will have titles now.

And about bananas? No wonders, i eat more bananas in a day than the glasses of cold tap water i drink in twenty four hours. It has a few benefits in general, often people relate them to the even and odd numbers one must eat at a time. But here, they serve a purely different purpose. They are an instant meal, without juice and melt on the tongue easily - even you can gulp small chunks and burp twenty minutes later.

Procrastination is at its' peak. I must end this random post here -the reason being i) you are reading the blog of a procrastinator ii) his mind is blank at the moment iii) he wants to sleep iv) he has to think how to get back to work, for his fake love for the books vanishes easily if he ignores them for more than two days v) Just a five vi) -Blank - vii) he doesn't want to waste your time if you are still reading and admit that amid a lot of tension and anxiety (according to the post below)- he still has a lot of things to learn and go through. May be it will take a couple of years if he starts today?

Meanwhile just a few days old Ahmad has almost succeeded in telling others to change their routines as per his demands. And vows to continue this battle if they don't or stop doing that.

Did i mention cakes in the post?
